Doncaster Speakers Club Competition – 8 March 2021

Thanks to Arthur the Competition Chair for hosting the night ably assisted by Jean the Chief Judge and her fellow Judges.

First up was the International speech with 4 members taking part, Andrew, Andy, Elizabeth and Stephanie.

The International speech is a 5 to 7 min speech normally around a personal story with a lesson for life that people can take away.

1st speaker Stephanie’s speech was titled “The Other Two Percent” looking at times in the past when she has not reached perfection. 2nd speaker Andy’s “Crossing Paths” looked at the people he has met in his life who he has learnt things from. The 3rd speech by Andrew was titled “Human Rights” and looked how life is harder for left handed people. The final speaker Elizabeth had a speech titled “Won’t You Please, Please Help Me?” looking at the life of a Romanian rescue dog.

The top 2 speakers go through to the area round and they were……..
1st Place – Elizabeth and 2nd Place Stephanie

The second competition was the Evaluation comp and participating in this one were Andrew, Andy, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Steve and Bridget

The contestants had to listen to a 5 to 7 min speech given by Val and then give a 2 to 3 min evaluation themselves back to Val and the rest of the members at the meeting.

The top 2 Evaluators were……..

1st Place – Andrew and 2nd Place – Elizabeth

The area competion takes place on Saturday 27th March 2021 again on Zoom. The top 2 placed club competitiors from Doncaster, Sheffield, Hull and York will compete together.
