Hull Speakers hosted the first ever Area 21 Spring Speech contests and Doncaster Speakers took a full part with a strong supporting team for the entrants – Bridget Pearson and Michael J Clarke in the International Speech contest and Michael J Clarke and Andrew Miller in the Evaluation contest.
Michael J Clarke won the International Speech contest and Andrew Miller won the Evaluation contest – both will now go forward to the Division E contests in Birmingham on April 23.
A further congratulation to Area Director Pauline Westrop (also a member of Doncaster Speakers) for arranging an excellent contest.

On Monday Jan 30th 2017 the club took advantage of the fifth Monday in the month to hold a Strictly Speaking and Evaluation event.
Andrew Miller shared his story of how he progressed from winning our club competition, to winning in Area 15 to winning the contest to represent Division E in two District competitions. We are delighted he has agreed that we can share it here so it can reach a wider audience.

Area 15 International Speech Contest | Area 15 Evaluation Contest
And the winners of the Area 15 contest are…
We are delighted that our very own Club President, Gail Powell, won the Evaluation Contest in Sheffield last Sunday and therefore retained the Trophy within Doncaster Speakers (last year’s winner was Jamie Godfrey, also from Doncaster Speakers)!
The winner of the International Speech Contest was Billal Jamil, President of Sheffield Speakers.
Gail and Billal will be competing in the Division E Speech Contest, held in Doncaster, on Sunday 27th April. As the representatives for Area 15, they will be competing against the winners of the Evaluation Contest and International Speech Contest respectively of Division E Areas 39, 51, 48 for the winner to go through to the District Final.

A great day is assured with top class speeches and some great examples of evaluation excellence. What’s more we also have a highly interactive workshop on “Developing Great Leaders,” where you can discover your leadership abilities.
The Day starts at 10.30am with Registration followed by the workshop, with a buffet lunch at 12.00. The contest starts at 1.00pm and is due to finish around 4.30pm.
The venue is the Regent Hotel in Doncaster (Regent Square, DN1 2DS). There is street parking in the square and nearby streets with a car park 2 minutes away.
All this for a mere cost of £15.

Last night was our Club Contest Night
We held the International Speech Contest and the Evaluation Contest
And what a fantastic night it was!
Andrew Miller was a brilliant Contest Chair and Alison Kitchman carried out her role as Chief Judge brilliantly. The Counters (Andrea Pashley & Julie Gordon) and the Timekeepers (Michael J Clarke, Michel Ediele & Derek Badger) helped the smooth running of the event.
In the International Speech Contest, Frederika Roberts was runner up and the winner was Gail Powell.
Gail Powell will be representing Doncaster Speakers in the International Speech Contest and the Evaluation Competition at the Toastmasters International AREA 15 Speech Contest at the Jurys Inn Sheffield on Sunday 13th April 2014.
The winners at the Area Contest will go through to the Division E Spring Speech Contest at The Regent Hotel, Doncaster on Sunday 27th April 2014.
